Kenya

History

Despite the violent conflicts that have troubled neighboring countries in recent years, Kenya is one of the most overall stable countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

However, Kenya has experienced a series of troubles in recent years: concentrated post-election violence, oil and food price increases, the global financial crisis and the worst drought in a decade. Though Kenya has also shown economic development, these setbacks have made progress in reducing poverty and improving health care a continual challenge.

World Bank data indicates that about 46% of Kenya's population lives in poverty. As in much of Africa, HIV/AIDS and malaria remain long-term health care concerns.

There is much hope in Kenya, however; current government leaders are working to fight corruption, to build the economy and to improve education—all activities that promote the overall health of its infrastructure and its people.
