IMA World Health sent representatives to the 5th Biennial Africa Christian Health Association Conference in Accra, Ghana from Feb 21-24, 2011.
The conference, was hosted by the Christian Health Association of Ghana, had 75 attendees from Africa, Europe and the USA to discuss ways to improve maternal and child health in Africa.
In 2010, the UN held a Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Summit in New York and it was found that significant progress was achieved in some MDGs. However many countries, especially in Sub-Saharan African have made little progress in improving maternal and child health.
The conference created an opportunity for Christian Health Associations (CHAs) to take stock of where they are with regard to their contribution to the MDGs. They discussed opportunities to strengthening capacity, partnerships and create sustainable maternal and child health service delivery through the Faith-Based health networks in Africa.
