South Korea – Three IMA World Health staff members traveled to Seoul, South Korea for the sixth meeting of the Global Alliance for the Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (GAELF) held June 1-3rd, where IMA’s Haiti country representative, Dr Abdel Direny, was a featured speaker. The Global Alliance works to bring together a diverse group of public-private health partners to support the Global Program to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.

“It was an honor for IMA to be asked to participate in a global conference of this magnitude,” said Rick Santos, IMA World Health President and CEO. “We were pleased to share our experiences in Haiti and discuss the success we have had working with a variety of partners on mass drug administrations to fight these debilitating diseases.”

Dr. Direny presented the successes and challenges of the national Neglected Tropical Disease Control Program in Haiti, discussing the highly successful collaboration between IMA, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and other partners. The mass drug administration program is expected to provide coverage for the eligible population of the entire nation of Haiti by the end of 2011.

Ann Varghese, Program Officer, and Dr. Sarla Chand, Vice President of International Programs also attended the conference.
