In June 2010, IMA was awarded funding for a one-year AIDS project by the World Bank-managed Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) through the Ministry of Health in South Sudan.
This HIV/AIDS program is an extension of IMA World Health's existing work in Jonglei and Upper Nile states, where IMA has been the Lead Agency for a three-year health systems development program called SuddHealth since 2008.
The Southern Sudan AIDS Commission's goal is to increase the two states' capacity to manage and implement a full range of HIV/AIDS prevention and care services. IMA's tasks include training health workers, establishing and strengthening voluntary counseling and testing centers in hospitals and primary health care centers, and supporting the provision of anti-retroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission services in selected hospitals and primary health care centers.
This program is funded until June 2011.
