By weaving critical information about malaria into their sermons and community education, faith leaders can play a vital role in educating their communities to make the right choices for prevention and treatment of this widespread and deadly disease.
In order to prevent and combat malaria in Africa, IMA World Health partnered with the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty (CIFA) to create Sermon Guides for Christian and Muslim faith leaders to use in educating communities about malaria prevention and treatment.
The guides are titled, "Stopping a Killer: Preventing Malaria in Our Communities."
Health experts from IMA and CIFA developed six critical strategies to prevent malaria and to control its spread, along with six sample sermons—tailored for both Christian and Muslim congregations—to coincide with the key messages.
The Malaria Sermon Guides were launched at the Washington National Cathedral on August 11, 2010.
