Global Fund

Malaria control and prevention in DRC

After a decade of fruitful collaboration with IMA World Health to improve health care in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in 2006 the Protestant Church of Congo (Eglise du Christ au Congo, or ECC) received a $120 million Global Fund grant to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

The goal of the Global Fund program is to empower community organizations to address malaria through the increased use of an effective course of prevention and treatment tactics, including:

  • IPT (intermittent preventive treatment)
  • ACT (Artemisinin-based combination therapy)
  • Long-lasting insecticide treated nets (LLINs).

Other program activities include education on disease prevention, voluntary testing and counseling and treatment in collaboration with local partners.

IMA's role is to provide technical assistance through grant management, performance reporting and training in capacity building and compliance.

A total of 15 million people in 120 health zones will be served by this program, which is funded until 2011.
