Human Resources for Health

What is it?

Hospitals and clinics in the developing world are continually challenged by a shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies, but that's only the beginning of the problem.

hr_for_health_460 Health care workers are in short supply and unevenly distributed; many lack the appropriate training to handle the health care needs of the populations they serve. In addition, health care facilities do not have standards of accountability, data collection or job skill development to make the most of available staff.

Human Resources for Health programs address these issues in human resources to help health care facilities better manage and develop their staff.

What We Do

CapacityPlus

Since 2009, IMA World Health has been a partner in the USAID-funded CapacityPlus project, which addresses the challenges of human resource depletion around the world.

Key goals include strengthening planning processes, performance support, job skill training programs, partnerships and workforce development among faith-based health care organizations in developing countries.

IMA's role includes:

Liaising with and providing technical and financial assistance to the faith-based community in human resources for health (HRH) initiatives
Advocacy for HRH among faith-based organizations and beyond though the monthly publication of the Hotline HRH newsletter
Supporting the Africa Christian Health Associations (ACHAs) Platform, - a forum where Christian Health Associations (CHAs) have a unified voice on issues that concern them most, including HRH.
Participating in and documenting studies on promising practices or other related topics
