Staff Report/IMA

Hurricane Tomas hit the western portion of Haiti with heavy rains worsening living conditions in the beleaguered country.

The U.N. fears that Tomas will widen the cholera outbreak that has already been cited as the cause of death for 500 people.

Storm clouds darken over the skies of a camp outside Port-au-Prince.

"People should (not) be under the misapprehension that it (the epidemic) is under control. The cholera epidemic is likely to spread." said Nigel Fisher, the U.N. humanitarian coordinator.

IMA is responding immediately with a shipment of supplies, but we need your help to sustain the effort. However, we do not have the funds needed to continue meeting this crisis, and need to raise at least $25,000 to get these critical supplies into the hands of medical workers through our strong network of partners.  Will you please help?

Your gifts will be used to deliver:

  • 50,000 antibiotic tablets
  • Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) to treat 25,000 liters of water
  • 100,000 water purification tablets
  • 20,000 latex gloves for health care workers
  • 5,000 bars of antibacterial soap

Your gift does make a difference!
