Safe Motherhood Kits™ in Haiti

020110-cdg-safe-motherhood-kitsThe scenes are grim. The city of Port-au-Prince and surroundings areas have been leveled by a massive earthquake. What can we do to help?

The fact is, even after such a natural disaster, life goes on. In the midst of desperation, mothers still are giving birth. But the earthquake destroyed hospitals, clinics and supplies, leaving fathers and mothers struggling to find necessary supplies and a clean environment for childbirth. An unclean birthing environment can lead to infection—one of the leading causes of maternal and child mortality in the developing world.

IMA World Health—and you—can help. IMA’s Safe Motherhood KitTM provides everything needed for a clean, safe delivery. Each kit contains clean and sterile supplies, including a plastic barrier to keep the area clean and warm clothes for the newborn. Contrast that with the alternative—giving birth on bare ground without clean supplies and nothing for the newborn—and the impact of each Safe Motherhood KitTM becomes clear.

Your gift of only $25 will provide one Safe Motherhood KitTM for an expectant mother and her newborn. Imagine the difference your gift can make for the mother and newborn who receive a Kit. And imagine the impact you can make by providing two, four, or even ten kits!

Life—including childbirth—goes on in Haiti. That’s why the Safe Motherhood KitTM is urgently needed now. Haiti will face many challenges in the months and years to come, but this is one way to make a difference now. Please help expectant mothers in Haiti by providing a Safe Motherhood KitTM today.

Note: After the January 12th earthquake, the condition of the warehouse storing some kits was not known. Now we have good news: Those kits have been found and are being distributed to those in need.
