The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadows sent about 25 volunteers to New Windsor to assemble Safe Motherhood KitsTM for IMA this week.
The assembly line process started and finished in an hour as the volunteers filled large boxes with finished kits.
The Rotary Club of Bonds Meadows has been a long-term supporter of safe motherhood programs and the Safe Motherhood KitTM by assembling kits 2-3 times each year for the last 5 years according to Pat Amass, long-time Bonds Meadows Rotary member. During the past three years, the Club has also contributed $22,000 to IMA in support of this program.
The Safe Motherhood KitTM is distributed to hospitals and clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Haiti.
Each Safe Motherhood Kit™ contains essential clean and sterile supplies including gloves, umbilical tie, scalpel, gauze pads, plastic sheeting, bar of soap, washcloth and baby supplies (a hat, tunic and blanket). IMA also provides education on safe birthing procedures and training on the proper use of a Safe Motherhood Kit™ to ensure the safest birth possible.
Most recently, IMA sent 1,162 Safe Motherhood KitsTM to Haiti in October.
