Hope to women and children in Africa

By Emily Esworthy/IMA

Supporting women and children, who suffer most from disease and poverty, is foundational to advancing overall health in developing countries.

In DR Congo, IMA cares for victims of gender-based violence and is actively involved in fistula repair, a simple but powerful procedure that restores dignity to women injured through childbirth, or sexual or domestic abuse. IMA also supports clinics that provide antenatal services in remote areas of DR Congo.

Also supporting maternal health, the IMA Safe Motherhood Kit™ provides clean and sterile birthing supplies for expectant mothers and a layette to keep newborns warm.

IMA improves childbirth survival rates and newborn child health in Tanzania through a program called MAISHA—Swahili for "life" and an acronym meaning 'Mothers and Infants – Safe, Healthy, Alive.'

By supporting the health of women and babies and fighting diseases that affect children, IMA is not only saving and improving lives now—we're also paving the way for a healthier future for each one.
