Did you know?
In any natural disaster or calamity it is the children who suffer the most. Displacement and the destruction of precious domestic routine are devastating for the young, especially when accompanied by loss of family members and friends and a shortage of food and water. Tens of thousands of children are in this disturbing situation.
Children face together with their parents an epic daily struggle to survive as the demand for water, food and health services outstrips availability, especially in areas impacted by many internally-displaced people.
In response to the plight of these children, IMA World Health is offering a means to directly impact the health of the children of Haiti. For a contribution of only $15, IMA will ensure that one child receives a Healthy Kids Kit containing a bar of soap, a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste, a comb, a bottle of moisturizing lotion and a new washcloth – all packed in a sturdy plastic zip locked bag for safe storage.
These kits will provide essential personal hygiene supplies and reduce transmission of diseases which are the result of overcrowding and poor sanitation. Beyond the earthquake zone, kits also encourage children to come to central locations to receive tablets to prevent Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
Dr. Abdel Direny, IMA's Country Representative in Haiti, says that "not only do Healthy Kids Kits provide personal hygiene supplies for children living in unsanitary conditions, they are also a good motivational tool for our NTD mass drug administration."
A contribution of $45 will fund one Family Pack with kits for three children. A contribution of $300 will fund one Classroom Pack with sufficient kits for a moderate sized classroom of 20 students.
Like its predecessor IMA Medicine Box® and Safe Motherhood Kit, the Healthy Kids Kit is a simple yet remarkably effective way of directly impacting the health of the most vulnerable people in the developing world: the children who will build the Haiti of the future.
Please help the children of Haiti with a generous contribution. Healthy Kids Kits are individually not very expensive, but their impact is immediate and immense.
